gum lift

What is a gum lift?

A gum lift is a surgical procedure involving the removal of excess gum tissue to expose healthy enamel tooth structure. A gum lift is often completed in combination with other cosmetic procedures to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

What is involved in the procedure?

Most gum lifts cannot be properly completed with a laser alone. Local anesthetic is placed and a blade is used to remove excess gum tissue and simultaneously sever connective tissue fibers. The key to a successful gum lift is the severing of those connective tissue fibers because they stimulate tissue growth. If that process is not completed properly the tissue will return over time, this is why patients often find laser therapy to be unsuccessful.

Is it painful? What is the recovery process?

A gum lift is completed in a single appointment, and in most cases recovery time is very minimal. You can expect some minor post-operative bleeding and slight tenderness for a few days.
